Science on the move

Students explore erosion and land movement

Second grade students in Mrs. Williams' class at Ehrman Crest Elementary recently stepped into the role of scientists and engineers! In their science unit on land changes, our young investigators explored how wind and water change the shape of land. Through hands-on activities, students created models to observe how land moves and changes over time, tested their ideas and designed solutions to minimize land change.

“It’s so fun to make different land models,” said student Hailey Follett. “My favorite part was building the land bin with my group. We were building a solution to keep the dirt and gravel from moving!”

Using their models, the class experimented, observed patterns and even refined their designs.

“As a teacher, it’s been fun watching their ideas and creativity come to life,” said Mrs. Williams. “This science unit has allowed them to be leaders of their own learning. They’ve also learned problem solving and how to practice collaboration with others!”
