Volunteer Clearance Information

 

To ensure student safety and comply with state law, volunteers are categorized as follows: 

Regular (Program) Volunteers 

These volunteers provide ongoing support for school-sponsored activities and may have direct contact with students. Examples include: 

• Assistant coaches 

• Overnight trip chaperones 

• Marching band helpers 

Requirements: Must complete and submit three background clearances: 

1. PA Child Abuse History (Act 151) 

2. PA State Police Criminal Record Check (Act 34) 

3. FBI Criminal Background Check (Act 114) 

Clearances must be renewed every five years. 

Occasional (Casual) Volunteers 

These volunteers help infrequently and always under staff supervision, without direct contact with students. Examples include: 

• Classroom party helpers 

• Single-day field trip chaperones 

• Event ushers 

Requirements: No background clearances needed. Must sign the following forms annually: 

• Policy Acknowledgment 

• Volunteer Affirmation 

• Confidentiality Statement 

These requirements are to be updated every school year.
